Duke Homestead Field Trip

What a great field trip!  We milked a cow, watched a movie about a girl from 150 years ago, toured an old farmhouse, and played "Townball".  It was a great NC day!  What was your favorite part?

Welcome Back 2013 - 2014

Mrs. Hallmets and Mrs. Gibson are so excited to start the new school year.  We have been working hard getting ready for the new year.
We can't wait to meet our students at Open House and start the school year on Monday!

End of school year

We are just about at the end of our 2012 - 2013 school year.  We have had lots of fun this year.  We have also learned lots of new things.  Our field trips have been awesome!  The books and stories we have read have been fabulous!  The best part of this year for me has been watching my students grow into super readers and math wizards.  Please post about your year in Mrs. Hallmets' First grade.

Strawberry Patch

We went to Lyon's Farm Strawberry Patch. We ate lots and even picked some strawberries to bring home. What will our families do with all those berries? We stopped at Duke Park to eat lunch and play. When we got back to school we made strawberry shortcake all by ourselves . What did you do with the fresh strawberries?

The Cuckoo

We will be performing The Cuckoo, The Mexican Folktale about how the Cuckoo Bird lost her colors, on Tuesday, May 7th @ 6:30. We have been busy learning songs and motions for the play.

Our First 5 Finishers of the Marathon

Dani, Logan, Samantha, Daniel, and Xaviah were the first to finish our 10 mile marathon. The rest of the class is close behind!!!

Earth Day Challenge

Today we worked together with our 3rd grade book buddies to help the Earth. We set the timer for 10 minutes and went outside to pick up trash. Can you believe what we found? We have talked and read about many ways to help the Earth. Post ways you can help the Earth and save the ice for the polar bears.
