Our Trip to the Science Museum

Today we went to the Museum of Life and Science. We saw lots of things. We saw a spaceship, animals, fossils and dinosaurs, butterflies and huge insects, we made a tornado and felt clouds. My favorite part was watching the wolves. There were 2 and they were so beautiful. Post about your favorite part of the museum.

Spring Break Week

Spring Break begins on Friday April 29th.  As we look around Durham we can see lots of signs that Spring is trying to appear.  It is cold for this time of the year but flowers are starting to bloom and trees have buds on them.  My favorite part of Spring is listening to the birds come back.  My dog Seamus loves to bark and chase them.  Tell me about your favorite thing about Spring.

American Symbols

This week we are reading about the symbols of America.  We have read about our flag, the Statue of Liberty, the Bald Eagle, the Liberty Bell, and Mount Rushmore.  When I went to Washington DC I saw many other symbols like the White House, the Washington Monument, and the Capital Building.  These symbols stand for things that are important to our country.  Tell me about a symbol we learned about and why you think it is important.

Changes in the Seasons

This week we are looking at how the seasons change and what causes the seasons to change.  We looked at how the Earth moves around the sun and how parts of the Earth get more sun and it is summer, and less sun when it is winter.  Then the Earth moves and it changes.  Please post about your favorite season and the things you like to do during that season.

The Night Sky

This week we are going on a field trip to the UNC Morehead Planetarium.  We read the story The Night Sky, an informational text about the sky at night.  We read about stars, comets, planets, and constellations.  What is your favorite object in the night sky?  What did you like best about our field trip?  Please post your answers.
                                            

Literature Buddies

This week we read the story, The Dot. The main character learns that everyone can create a treasure. Tell me about one of your favorite treasures. Check out our photos of us working together and helping each other.

Things that change

This week we are reading about how many things change. We read a story about a little girl that does not fit in her shoes anymore. At first she felt sad but changed at the end and felt happy about getting new shoes.
There are all kind of changes. They make us feel all kinds of feelings.
The beginning of summer makes me happy for the start of summer vacation but sad because I will have to say good-bye to my 1st graders. Please post about a change you know about and how it makes you feel.

Chinese New Year

Today we read about Chinese New Year. We learned about many traditions. Children get red envelopes with lucky money. There are parades with dragons and lion dancers to chase away bad luck. We also read about the Chinese Zodiac. This year, 2013, will be the year of the snake. What year were you born and what is your sign? Do you think you are like your animal? Post please !

100 Days of School

This week we celebrated the 100th day of first grade! We made "lovely owls" with our 3rd grade buddies and created a list of 100 reasons to love Little River. Post your reasons for loving Little River!
